 พระปิดตา มีประวัติว่าเป็นอัครสาวกองค์หนึ่ง ชื่อพระควัมปติ หรือพระมหากัจจายนะ แสดงออกถึงนัยยะแห่งธรรม และผู้ศรัทธาเชื่อกันว่า สามารถดลบันดาลโชคลาภ เงินทอง มีกินมีใช้สมบูรณ์พูนสุข ส่วนที่มีการปิดทวารทั้งเก้า ปิดตา หู จมูก ปาก และก้น ที่เรียกว่า มหาอุด เป็นอุปเท่ห์หมายถึง ตอนที่พระภควัมปติท่านกำลังเข้านิโรธสมบัติ ทวารทั้งเก้าก็จะปิดสนิท ไม่ยินดียินร้ายกับกิเลสทั้งหลาย เป็นความดับสนิท ของอาสวะกิเลสต่าง ๆ ที่ไม่อาจจะมาแผ้วพานได้เลย อันเป็นการป้องกันสรรพภยันตรายทั้งหลายทั้งปวง

พระปิดตาขจรฤทธิ์ (กระสุนคต)  “นะมามิหัง” ที่สอดคล้องกับพระอรหันต์ ซึ่งมีความหมายว่านอบน้อม “ปิดตาขจรฤทธิ์” ซึ่งเป็นคำในตำราบทกลอน ยันต์นะสามศร ซึ่งเป็นปฐมศาสตร์แห่งวิชากระสุนคต หรือ ศรพระราม ที่มีในตำราโบราณว่า

“นะสามศร ขจรฤทธิ์พิชิตมาร คนโบราณสอนไว้เป็นมรรคค้ำผล รุ่งเรืองฤทธิ์ กายสิทธิ์เลิศมงคล มีคุณเลิศล้น ใช้ได้พ้นพรรณานับประการ”
